我們在做的，叫Project Meta
在2011年尾，Nicho在Facebook打了篇note，說要搞一個project，只送給我們自己。她說：做了這麼多年學生，搞了無數個project很辛苦，竟然只為了分數，多可惜。就是這樣，我們一班中六時認識的，來自不同學校的學生會幹事，在聖誕節再次聚在一起，想要做些什麼出來。這次，不為誰人。
原來中學畢業以來幾年，我們一班老朋友都覺得越來越迷失，大學的一些主流價值觀，逼使我們要在犧牲與讓步之間作出抉擇。每個人都在找intern，追GPA；什麼是理想? 似乎，畢業之後，能夠進投行，入四大，或者打份office工萬零二萬，就算是標準。我們各人在自己的生活中有自己的掙扎，開始明白，成長是什麼一回事。
有人說，大學裡的同學幾乎沒有人拿出真心交朋友；又有人說，發覺讀同讀音樂系的同學以為自己的理想是音樂，不過是一場美麗的誤會；有人在探索自己同性戀取向的同時，驚覺原來所謂社會縮影的學校，不真的很包容；有人問：為什麼我們一定會跟內地學生保持距離，甚至離他們比外國交流生更遠；有人一邊讀副學士，一邊懷疑，升讀港大是不是他真正所想。
卡夫卡寫過一篇小說名叫變形記(metamorphosis)，故事講述主角一覺醒來，驚覺自己變成一條蟲，備受家人朋友唾棄，只能留在房間裡面，鬱鬱寡歡。家人用蘋果砸他，結果主角細菌感染而死，而家人反而因為他的死亡變得經濟上少了負擔，可以搬去更舒適的環境生活。
主角的遭遇，令我們聯想到其實自己同樣是書中的一條蟲。但我們明白，每個人都一樣，而只有經歷過這種掙扎，人才會成熟。Metamorphosis一詞，在生物學上即完全變態，是昆蟲從蟲卵蛻變為成蟲的過程。而meta這個字，意思本身就是超越, 成長。我們搞這個project，是想要記錄自己在生活上所見所聞，以及它們跟我們成長的關係。
我們這個project，為期一年。在這一年裡，我們會反思成長當中不同的課題
。我們會拍攝一些紀錄片，亦會以圖片，文字的形式，表達自己的看法，為自己成長的過程留低腳印。我們希望用社交網絡，盡量讓更多人認識我們，了解我們。
我們不代表誰，不需要把我們標籤為90後，大學生，香港人，或人。

This is called Project Meta.
All these matters originated from a Facebook note written by Nicho. ‘We have been working on numerous projects for academic purpose. Now is the time to have a project solely of our own.’
With a simple idea yet a strong determination, here we go.
Being bombarded by the typical mainstream values, we were left a slim margin for self-exploration. We were brainwashed to bury ourselves in aiming at a high GPA, competing for sound internships, which are programmed as the formula leading us to the ladder of success. University life turned out to be an aggravating confusion. Immersing in the pool of struggling, making choices and sacrificing, we started to gather up the threads and figured out what growth truly means.
Think out of the box, and we wish to walk the talk. We looked for something out of the mainstream, fresh and novel. The project theme was set as ‘Meta’, literally meaning metamorphosis, which is, in tandem, a novel written by Franz Kafka. The protagonist woke up finding himself transformed into a monstrous insect-like creature. After going through all the repelling within his circle, he eventually passed away. Even more pathetic was his family gained a better life as a result of his death. It was universally considered to be a biography of Kafka. Living under the limelight of father who had a splendid achievement in the business sector, Kafka declared himself to be a writer. He would have been blamed if the same ruler in the current society was applied on him. In fact, we are experiencing the same marginalization as Kafka. Inspired by the word ‘Metamorphosis’, which the biological meaning coincides with literal interpretation as evolve and overcome, we hope to capture the intrinsic affection of our surroundings on the process of growth. It is nothing but the attitude making us to remain as our true selves when we proceed to different stages of life.
Project Meta is a one-year project comprising themes ranging from identity to friendship with documentary, writing or photo as the medium. We aim at expressing ourselves. We aim at doing something for ourselves. Need no labeling, we are nobody but ourselves. This is Project Meta.
